Add the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington to the long list of targets for the writers of ‘The Simpsons’, Fox’s long-running animated show featuring the adventures of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, et al. The show’s opening on its March 27th episode has the Simpson family entering “Springfield Atmos Stadium” (which looks remarkably like Cowboys Stadium!!!) with the neon sign promoting “Welcome to Nothing Head Day”.
Some of the funniest lines/moments:
*The Simpsons pull their car into a space in the parking lot. Getting out of the car, eco-conscious Lisa (Bart’s younger sister) looks at the stadium and says, “Wow, I know I laid down in front of bulldozers to stop this stadium from being built, but I have to admit it’s pretty sweet!”.
*The family walks through the concourse of the stadium which looks like an upscale shopping mall. The names of the stores are Spiffany (like Tiffany’s) and Vulgari (instead of Bulgari). Marge (the mom with the blue hair) says, “It’s so fancy…sushi bars, a 60-screen movie theatre, the
*Marge continues…”They even have a day-spa staffed with all-pro former linemen”. Through the window of ‘The Pampered Fan’, you can see two big guys giving back massages to patrons. One lineman laments the fact that he wouldn’t be working as a masseur if he hadn’t bough a Ferrari everyday for 22seasons. The other replies, ‘I once hosted Saturday night live, once again ladies and gentlemen, Matchbox 20!”.
*The Simpsons walk through the stadium concourse continues and Marge notes, “Look, they even have a zoo featuring all the NFL mascots!”. Looking into the zoo, there’s a bear, a panther, a ram, a lion, an eagle, a bronco, etc. Then all the animals start attacking each other. In the next window, a dolphin in a water tank is slapping a hapless animal.
*”This place even has its own arts district with football-hating intellectuals,” notes Marge. Then you see a large atrium area filled with cafes and a wine bar. “Ugh, we’ll stay for one inning, and then we can go,” says one artsy-looking guy downing a glass of wine with two buddies.
*”Well, this has been great,” says Homer, “but we should be getting home soon because the game will be starting.” Marge replies, “The game is right here” as the family looks down the concourse to the playing field. As they walk towards the seating area, everyone is watching a huge center-hung scoreboard (yes, just like Cowboys Stadium).
*”I hope you kids are enjoying yourselves,” says Homer, “because you and your children will be paying for this place long after the team moves to another city!”.
*The action then switches to the playing field where a kicker lines up for a field goal….the ball flies in the air and hits a chandelier before passing through the uprights of the goal post.
